Junior High Sevens
Junior High Sevens is a program built on the Law modifications introduced for HS Sevens. JH Sevens offers another preliminary step in the progression from non-contact rugby to International rugby. While HS Sevens removes many specialty skills to ensure less familiar coaches are suitably comfortable and safe stewards of their team, the JH Sevens rules modifications take this process one step further by removing the ruck.
Instead of allowing a contest for the ball at the breakdown immediately following a tackle, JH Sevens requires all defensive players to retire to an offside line at the last foot of the tackle. This modification does guarantee continuity at the breakdown for the offensive team, but this continuity is not unreasonable given the ball-handling skills typically demonstrated at the Junior High level. At the same time, this modification significantly improves safety by minimizing access to unconstrained collisions around the tackle.
